HERE IS A FEW WAYS YOUR DONATIONS HELPED IN 2016:

                                                                                                   Missions Accomplished 2016

Wow what a Blessed year! As quickly as 2016 came in, the end appears to be closing in faster than we realize!  Adopt a soldier has accomplished so many wonderful things this year for our troops, Veterans and military families. None of this would be possible without our fantastic volunteers, families and donors! We would like to share just a few of the things we were able to bless these heroes with from December 2015 to November 2016.

Adopt a Soldier was honored to welcome home 3 of our Soldiers from deployments this past year! We all agree the best surprise welcome home was December 18th, 2015. AAS arranged transportation for the wife and son of our deployed soldier, surprising him right at the gate at Midway airport. Unbeknownst to his young daughter, who had no idea daddy was coming home, the surprise was underway! AAS family kept her busy, as she “volunteered” to pack food boxes for needy families, all the while her dad was in a huge box awaiting the big surprise!

Our Vietnam Veteran “Santa” arrived and presented her with her special Christmas Gift, as her daddy jumped out the box! There wasn’t a dry eye in the room! During this past year Adopt a Soldier able to reach out further, as we welcomed two Marines returning home from deployment. These Marines were returning to their homes in Yorkville and Oswego, and their parents reached out to the AAS family for help! We were honored to arrange these homecoming events for one Marine returning from Afghanistan and the other Kuwait. As a 501c3 not for profit organization, Adopt a Soldier prides ourselves in providing the best homecoming we can, complete with transportation, airport admittance for family to gate, airport welcome, hometown parade, advertising, press and presentation of challenge coin at no cost to the Soldier or his family.

                                                                                                                        CARE PACKAGES

Over the past year, Adopt a Soldier invested over $600 in postage alone, to send care packages filled with goodies, to our troops! What an accomplishment for our growing organization.

                                                                                                                    COINING CEREMONY

When Adopt a Soldier welcomes a new military member into our family, it is celebrated with what is known as a coining.  This event provides the family of the Soldier to celebrate and gather with friends and other military families to honor their servicemen.  AAS provides the food and ceremony, welcoming the family into the Adopt a Soldier organization. We feel by embracing not only the military member but also just as importantly their family! Connecting military families with other military families is the beginning of a fantastic network of support. We were honored to coin 5 military members this year! Our combined dollars for homecomings and coining’s totaled over $1200.

                                                                                                                       FAMILY READINESS

Adopt a Soldier is available for our military families and their service member by way of Grants/loans and aid in emergency situations. In 2015, AAS is thankful that we were able reach out with $700 in aid to our families/ service member

                                                                                                                            PRINCE HOME

Adopt A Soldier is very thankful for the Balthazor family for donating this vehicle, to the AAS organization.  After over $3000.00 in repairs, the Tracker was given to a veteran ready to graduate from Prince Home. After 3 years as a resident, he was ready to re-enter civilian life, employed and ready to live again! Adopt a Soldier was able to make this mission possible with the help of donations from several local auto parts stores and dealerships. A huge shout out to Bumper to Bumper & Napa in Manteno, and Dralle Chevrolet of Peotone for your donation of parts, and Meineke Muffler of Bradley. Last but not least Greasy Cheek of Peotone for your patience and help to make this happen! To present this veteran with a sound mode of transportation was thrilling! Just look what your support has provided

ANNUAL EVENTS:  A Kelly Christmas 2015

The past 3 years our AAS family has spent a magical day with our Prince Home Veterans. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Prince Home, it is a facility for homeless and disabled Veterans, that we adopted almost 4 years ago! Last year we topped our previous year beyond our dreams! We enjoyed a pizza party and fellowship with the Veterans along with our Santa distributing presents for each individual resident totally $5000.00! A huge thank you to Qubar for their generous donation helping to make this year better than ever! Wow what a blessing!

                                                                                                                           RUCK MARCH 2016

MAY 29TH of this year, Adopt a Soldier conducted a 22-mile Ruck March to bring awareness of the 22 military and veteran lives lost to suicide each day. Unfortunately, that number is now closer to 33 per day. Ten of our Veterans and one soldier (pre basic training), walked 22 miles with ruck sacks and flags in tow! A huge thank-you Doc’s Drugs of Manteno and Peotone, and Lindman Family McDonalds for all their support! Our mission is to keep raising awareness every year until we find a way to win this battle our heroes fight daily and let them know we as Americans Care! We look forward to seeing all of you along the route for Ruck March 2017, showing your support!

These are just a few ways your donations have helped us to continue to bless these Heroes! Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.  Thank you and God Bless,  Adopt A Soldier Family
